Linuxgruven

Quote of the week...

"Considering there are people still arguing to the death Apple vs. Microsoft in the Battlefront with no end in sight, I think we can safely assume that those with little going for them but an unhealthy obsession with their mobile platform of choice will keep the RIM/iOS/Android/WinMob flamefest going for a good 30 or 40 years.

My only wish is no single platform to become completely dominant. I'd like Apple's growth to slow, Android to catch up, and WinMob and RIM to make some sort of healthy showing in consumer space. Nothing has benefitted all of us more than so many robust choices -- consider how different the personal computer space could've been if one company hadn't come to dominate? (stated with no specific ill-will toward MIcrosoft)."

Hello. You've stumbled upon the personal website of Ben Hall.  Besides being a Systems Specialist in the School of Computing at Queen's, I am the current president of the Kingston Jazz Society, part of the Williamsville Neighbourhood association, a proud Kingstonian, and a very part-time web developer.

As the domain name suggests, my site began as a very Linux-centric place. Since its inception in 1999, my site has grown to include many other things that I find interesting. In addition to a few software projects, I've got a fairly extensive photo gallery, RIAA/MPAA rants and reviews for hardware and software that I have used over the years. I started playing the bass a while ago and have added a music section as well.

Sad to say, these days this site doesn't change too much.  I spend more of my time trying to encourage jazz in Kingston.  I do still post occasionally.  For quick things, I'm more likely to use a WordPress blog these days.
