Turino!
Woke up at the Lux, did laundry, sent out another e-mail (Good net access, specialized interface, fast, XP, IE.)
Took our bags to the station and checked them there. They wanted to keep our passports, but were happy with photocopies instead. Unfortunately, Cafe Monte Carlo was closed. We found another one instead. As usual, breakfast was pastries and cappuccino.
Next, we toured Turino. Guess what? it was under construction! We did find two breathtaking churches as well as some nice fountains, interesting buildings and nice gardens.
Walked around town. Most things are closed Monday too! Including all museums. We went to lunch. It was good, but was kinda over priced. We walked very long/fast to get there, it was a bit disappointing. Then we went to the Film Museum, it was closed.
Wandered over to the shroud of Turin. We planned to meet Yandu and Pat at 4:00 but arrived early, of course. We found an awesome gelato place close by. The owner gave us plenty of free samples before selling us gelato for 3 euros. Each. It was very filling though, so we were pretty happy.
We headed back over to the shroud and waited for Yandu and Pat. At 4:40 we gave up and went inside. They arrived about 10 minutes later. We caught up and spent and awesome afternoon/evening with them:
* Shroud
* More Gelato! (We didn't partake.)
* Cafe on the way to a somewhat fancy restaurant.
* Restaurant:
Yandu Sarah and I ordered penne with ham, onions and basil. Yandu ordered a Pizza as well, Sarah and I split a pizza (prosciutto and cheese.) Pat had mussels and pasta, we all split a bottle of good wine. We also got nailed ordering water again. At least it was only $1.80 split four ways. The bill was $65 for the four of us, we spit it and headed off for more gelato! We did have some this time. It was the best gelato we've ever eaten.
Pat and Yandu then escorted us to the train station. We picked up our bags and said goodbye before boarding our train.
We were hoping for a couchette with just the two of us, instead we ended out bunking with a nice young man from Napoli named Nic. He is currently in the military but will be joining the police soon. His English was excellent, so he spent quite a bit of time telling us all of the good and bad parts of Napoli. He warned us where to avoid and how to avoid drawing unwanted attention to ourselves. It was quite nice to have someone tell us the ins and outs of the city. Eventually we all went to sleep.
Sarah slept like a rock and I slept pretty well too.
