EeePC Tips

Here are a few things that I've found super-handy:

• MiniFoxFlat Firefox theme - Save screen space, even in full-screen mode
• FireFTP - Great little FTP client/Firefox plugin
  
• Lightning plugin for Thunderbird -  Your calendar on the go
• phpiCalendar - a web view of your calendar.  Works well with Lightning
  
• How to enable full desktop access (straight KDE)  Just install two packages
  
• How to add items to the AsusLauncher.  This should be easier
• To remotely connect to a Windows PC, hit Ctrl + Alt + t for a terminal, then enter: rdesktop <machine name/IP address>
• EeeXubuntu:  A respin of Xubuntu 7.10.  Everything more or less works out of the box.
  

The EeePC's "Easy Mode" uses IceWM as the window manager.  You can find more themes here.  More information on customizing IceWM can be found here.

To summarize, open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) and mkdir .icewm, now copy /etc/X11/icewm/* ~/.icewm/
This copies Asus' defaults to your home directory.  To set more keyboard shortcuts, edit ~/.icewm/keys.  Look at the other files to see other customization options.  IceWM is very flexible and is quite straightforward.

You can add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list to get at man other Xandros applications.  I'd install tsclient, Abiword and more.  See my brief overview of Debian package management for details.
